Hey, guess what! We are adopting!

We are going to start the adoption application process. Technically, we kinda already have.

Last weekend we FINALLY completed our application to submit to an adoption agency. It ended up taking us months longer than we expected, just because we kept running into issues. For instance, my driver's license had our old address (from 2 years ago, no big deal, whatever), so I had to apply for a new one and wait for that to come in. There were several, little annoying things like that. So, we finally get it done, in an envelope, and go to the agency website just to double check something.... and we see the words: Update: We will no longer be accepting applications for private infant adoptions until January 2013.

You have got to be kidding me, right?! I'm a little surprised that I didn't cuss. In fact, our first reaction was laughter in the "really? you have got to be kidding me! nothing ever happens the way we plan!" -type-way.

Not gonna lie, later that night I was mad and kinda depressed. That evening Matt had class and I searched at a frantic pace through every agency website that I had ever bookmarked, seen, or could search. I told Matt that I was going to skip all my classes the next day out of anger and sadness (but I didn't- I actually went to all my classes). This was Monday.

By the next day, I had narrowed the list down, and after emailing one agency and talking to a friend who works for another agency we started feeling good about our new possible agency #2.

By that evening, I was pretty sure that I had decided and told Matt my findings. He agreed that he was also feeling pretty good about our #2. This was Tuesday.

So, Wednesday night we decided to officially fill out the online form. It was more than an information request (because you had to answer questions about criminal record and medical history), but it was less information than an actual application. We were asked to rate our interest in their different programs.

On Friday, I received a call from Agency #2 and found out that the program that would best suit us would end up costing... oh, you know... about $18,000 more than Agency #1. That's right, eighteen followed by three zeros MORE than Agency #1. Ugh.

So what now? We are still thinking through what we should do. We still have the option of Agency #3, which would only be about $8,000 more than Agency #1. Or, of course, we could always wait it out and apply next year at Agency #1.
